Wellness in the "New Normal"
Time & Location
About the Event
With stay at home restrictions being lifted in many states, we will all be back onto the busy crowded city streets again before we know it.
How will we navigate these new lifestyle changes, and still hold onto the importance of community and human connection? How can we nourish ourselves- body mind and spirit- and try to emerge back into some false sense of normalcy without creating more stress and trauma?
Being in charge of our own health, listening to our bodies and being our own advocate is crucial in our well being.
Together we will navigate the importance of nutrition, movement, sleep and emotional health and their effects on our immunity, community, and well being. We will discuss various easy kitchen remedies, herbs and homeopathy for immune support and illness prevention, stress management and emotional wellness techniques, among others.
Terri Simmons of Alchemy Birth and Wellness - community midwife, herbalist and energy practictioner. Terri has been using, loving and sharing about herbs for more than 30 years. She marvels at their gentle strengths and their ability to transcorm and promote growth and wellness.
Dr Tara Nayak, ND - Naturopathic physician, Tara Nayak, graduated from University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine. She completed a residency position at the Center of Excellence in Generative Medicine that was focused largely on genetic analysis and microbiome analysis as well as nutrigenomics. She had the unique opportunity to work alongside the world’s leading expert in glycobiology and creator of the “Genotype Diet”, Dr. Peter D’Adamo. Since then, she has dedicated my time to researching and educating in the field of personalized medicine. She serves as adjunct faculty for the Maryland University of Integrative health where she teaches “Epigenetics and Nutrigenomics” and “Functional and Integrative Nutrition in Immune Health”. When she's not “down the rabbit hole” of research and problem solving, I enjoy spending time with my son and his brother (our dog), dancing, laughing (best medicine!), vegetable gardening, and trying my hand at cooking the healthy recipes I prescribe and share in my blog!
And myself, Kim Geisler, owner, green witch/folk herbalist at Transcending Roots Apothecary - Maryland native, calling Philadelphia home since 2006. I am a mother to two wildly magical beings, Shaden and Dahlia, now ages 6 (and 1/2...!😁) and 3. My journey into plant medicine began at the age of 17, searching for alternatives to manage panic attacks and anxiety. I grew up with various southern folk medicine traditions, but it wasn’t until I was introduced to herbalism by my acupuncturist in 2001, that plants have been my guide since. I have a bachelors in complementary and alternative medicine and child development, and studied clinical herbalism, but my REAL study has been working with the amazing, wise herbal mentors I have had the privilege of sitting in circle with, including my current wise woman mentor, Robin Rose Bennett. My practice with herbs is rooted in Appalachian folk medicine, magic, and wise woman tradition healing. My passion is in family, women’s, children’s and companion animal folk medicine, and really anything that brings humanity back into reconnection with the earth.
